I really should have been packing…

But I couldn’t help myself. With an upcoming trip (we leave today!) I downloaded Ali’s Scrapbook on the Road class and got to work on a mini for my trip… and then another one for Tuesday, because I know she’ll want to, “scrapbook mama? scrapbook?!?!” Let me back up. Because if you are a long (long, long) time reader, you know I’ve done this before. Here is a link to a similar thing I did when Bj and I drove to Alaska years ago. {total side note, but I’m sorry if you cruise through my archives and things are still wonky. Linking to this post reminded me I need to go back check links, photos, etc. I’m working on it very slowly! If there is something specific you want updated let me know!} I loved that album and wanted to do something similar. Plus coming down off of the high of doing the Week in the Life I really wanted to keep my memory keeping groove on. I’m keeping the words brief, so please if you have questions ask them in the comments section and I’ll get to them as soon as I can.

These were pretty simple books, and I’m just going to jump right in and show you a few pages and a little of my process.

I painted the inside covers of my book, and the outside covers of Tuesday’s. Everything I did in Tuesday’s book was mindful of how she handles things and experiences her art right now. There are textures and places for her to slip things, but no telling what she’ll actually do with the book, if she’s interested at all. So I kept it simple. A peek at hers:

I think the stitching, letter stickers and pocket pages (this one from a thrifting adventure) will all really appeal to Tuesday. But we shall see! Now to my book:

My book is also full of vintage loveliness. I think I filled it a bit overfull, but I wanted to leave lots of blank pages for the photos that will come later (I hemmed and hawed over an instax, but ultimately decided I couldn’t justify it). I also stuck in a piece of corrugated cardboard which I thought was a genius substitute for the piercing pad I usually use for my brads (yes, of course I’m taking brads!!). I realized uploading these pictures that it won’t be very helpful in one place, so I’ll probably yank that out as we go.

My lovely books ready for memories…

And a big mess to come home to, but I think it will be worth it.
And why are we going to Alaska? Why to meet who I’m sure will be our favorite new human being, Miss Madeline Lucette!

First comes love…

Then comes marriage, then comes…

Cute little babies in baby carriages! Well almost 🙂

This is one of my crew girl friends, Katie (yes, I have many crew girl friends named Katie!). Her husband made her this beautiful rocker (and the frame for the ultrasound picture of their son above).

They are really just so sweet. We shot first at their home and then went on to a little town called Harrisburg, with a stop at a wheat field along the way. I love it when clients out of my immediate area scout ahead for me!

These are the ones that Josh and Katie narrowed it down to after our ordering session the other night. I left out the bare belly shots. I want to point it out because I never post anything up on the blog my clients don’t want me to. In fact I have shoots that I never post at all. So if that’s stopping you from getting photographed, well then, it shouldn’t any more!

The photo booth

Oh how I wish I had photos of this thing! Sarah did here it is:

The photo booth from the wedding was awesome. Homemade by the groom. It was painted the same lovely shade of blue as their coop and beehives. Basically too boxes that faced each other, with black curtains on the sides. You sat in one side, in the other were two holes. One for the camera and one for a little red button to push. Behind the camera side was a laptop hooked up to the camera running a special program just made for this type of thing (kind of like this, maybe Erin can link me to the software they used—she got back to me: this is what they used). There was also a printer. On the side of the booth was an opening and little tray for the paper to come out. Erin got a paper cutter and one side of the 4×6 was for the guest, one for her books (I just cut slits in the corners for guests to stick the photos in a simple black Canson spiral bound journal). So you get to see mine since I got to keep my halves!

I cut the mustaches out with my Silhouette and then put them on sticks. The hat is from an old Harry Potter costume that I made to look like Rita.

At the very beginning of the evening the light did come through the top of the booth a bit (see Bj’s head for example). Tuesday really warmed up to the booth and even got in by herself a few times. I think it’s funny to see what she decided to do (peek-a-boo, tongue sticking out, and I believe those are kisses). Oh yes, after she got so dirty on the dance floor (ha!) we changed her  into pjs. Mary the kitty ears were a big hit, I’m glad they didn’t sell at your garage sale!

Of course we girls kept trying to come up with different things to do. I was pretty proud of myself for getting the flash lined up with the flash on the photo booth camera. Jenna and I talking on the phone is classic, we may not have hung out in a while but apparently we can still read each other’s minds as our poses are quite similar!
You know how much I love photo booths (see the birthday portraits and my own wedding). Now I’m a huge fan of the classic film versions but this was a fabulous alternative. So cool to get two copies. Well unlimited copies really as the program stores each photo. And I did replace the paper lots but never changed the ink cartridge, which is crazy (I think Aaron bought 6 extra just in case). And of course now they have there own photo booth for keeps!

A wedding!

Oh my goodness I was so much busier this last week than I thought I was going to be. My dear friend Erin got married yesterday to her sweetheart Aaron. I had a lot of little tasks to do and the week flew by. I’m happy to say the wedding turned out splendidly!

Flowers are from a friend’s yard. All of them from the same yard! They were beautiful. We worked on a board for the seating arrangements, I cut out little beehive for each guest and stamped a letter for the table they were at (but failed to get a picture of this).

Two high school friends (as is Erin) and former troop members—go Girl Scouts!

These lovely lanterns were put up by a crew of helpers the day before, and had little lights in them.

A candy bar! Tuesday had her first M&M, she was a fan (I hate the things).

The whole evening was at a friend’s place. The ceremony was in a wooded area on the property and the reception in a field with a tent.

Do you see the little toppers on the beer pull things? Carved by Aarron’s father, very cool.

I managed to get a photo of the tent without guests as Tuesday didn’t feel like sitting through the whole ceremony. 🙂 Afterwords she did get to be nice and noisy and active.

Dance floor! She was out here for just about every song until she went home early with papa.

Showing Erin all her moves, hehehe.
The girls stayed late to take things down and I snapped this as the evening was winding down:

A beautiful night. Congrats to the happy couple!
