The Willamette River, at left next to downtown Corvallis, floods the area around the Highway 34 bypass, partially visible at right in this aerial photo taken Thursday morning. The waters crossed Highway 34 itself onto the Trysting Tree golf course at upper right. The blockage of Highway 34 snarled commuter traffic to Corvallis throughout the day.

An over view, now while this is flooded Corvallis is kinda an island because there isn’t a bridge across the Willamette for another twenty miles (in Albany), so the back roads are packed with people trying to go around. That golf course is where our (OSU’s) team practice’s, and right next it it, close to the river is the boat house and stuff.

If you go straight on that wider road you would get to the townhouse I lived in, and then little driveway by the golf course is to get to the crew docks and boathouse.

This is our dock, that we usually walk, DOWN a ramp to get to (down like 14-20 feet depending on the height of the river). Hey, when did we get that new launch?

Just a note: it is still pouring hard core here in Salem, the really loud ploppy rain, okay well gotta go hit up some estate sales in this weather, hopefully most people will stay in and I can get some good deals!

-UPDATE FROM MY FIELD REPORTER KATIE-

    alp-
intense flooding is upon us in the Corvallis stretch of the Willamette river. hwy 34 is causing quite the problems as they are having traffic go towards i-5 via the median lane until you reach the stoplight by the mini-mart. the whole place is pretty much flooded- the ramp is out of control and there is no water action for the crew.
    over and out

  • Am I used to the rain? Of course, but I knew we were getting a lot down here. Then last night on the news the weather man was like, “if you want to talk about a city really getting a lot more than usual take a look at Salem who has had 325% more than normal.” I was like, pause that dude, I have got to get a picture, that’s insane. Okay you know what is even crazier? Corvallis is flooding, and it’s happening right by my old place. I always wondered if Mary’s Creek would spill over into our townhouse because we lived right on the bank, but it didn’t go too close when we lived there. I’m going to send my field reporter Katie L. to the scene. Katie are you on it? She might have a hard time getting there since 34 is closed, and that’s what I took to get to my house. People told me when I lived there that in the floods of 1996 they had not actually flooded, but they were a little island and couldn’t go anywhere, crazy. Hopefully Katie will tell us what is really happening because that news report doesn’t give enough info. I wonder if the crew girlies are able to get to the barn to erg? I know there is no way they are going out on a flood stage river (debris is so horrible to navigate and it would be flowing too fast). I wish I still had a link to the river monitoring station that is right on the bridge by the boat house. When I was a coxswain I would check it whenever we had tons of rain to see what conditions would be like, but I deleted the bookmark and can’t find it now. Anyways, ya, we’re getting rain.

  • How cool are these new fabric strips? I used this for the middle, this for the right side, and with the wavy diamonds I punched the letters. I ran the fabric strip through my little xyron x (it’s the perfect size) and then used Studio with my Quickutz. I pretty much immune to praise on 2 peas, but if you want the link it’s here. Happy birthday Jamie, this is coming your way!
