Tuesday and I had another great day today. Bj spent the day playing softball for a charity tournament, so Tuesday and I spent most of the day in the company of my mom, with visits by nana and pops (who are headed to southern California), and gramps (no pictures because we'll see him tomorrow for father's day). I spent my non baby playing time reading The No Cry Sleep Solution. I haven't implemented much in the book, but we had been trying the Ferber method and it just wasn't working for us. I actually did like the Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems book in that it talked a lot about the science of sleep and why babies (and everyone really) wakes at night. Turns out hearing Tuesday cry at night is my personal hell so it was a no go. Now I feel like Tuesday has horrible associations with her room, so we're working on that. I think my main plan right now is to get a schedule happening. I need to finish her bumper as well, since the bed situation we have going on in her room is a bit sketch:

Picture is grainy because I just took it with the ISO cranked and no flash since Tutu is sleeping in there right now (yes, asleep and it's only 8:38 now finishing this up at 9:36 – hope this time it sticks… I think I was putting her down too late before for one thing). After I get the bumper done I'm going to work on a few matching things. Bj and I want to do a wall of awesome for her with these Ikea shelves. And I want to paint up her dresser and put some awesome pulls on it. I think I have at least fifty seven projects in my list of to dos… When can I start having Tutu help me with stuff?

  1. I’ll tell ya, my sister has one year old twins and getting them to bed at night for her was hell. I mean, I thought she was going to lose her mind. A girlfriend of hers suggested she read a book. forgive me she is asleep right now or I’d ask her but I do believe it was something along the lines of healthy sleep habits for healthy kids??? I’ll ask her tomorrow. All I know is after reading that book and implenting whatever it said, those babies sleep like a dream. I’ll try and remember to get the book title from her and get it to you. She swears by it.

  4. Try The Baby Whisperer. My son was tough in the beginning too, but by about 3 months he was on a solid sleep schedule. I hate to tell you that you’re going to have to hear her cry in the beginning. It DOES get better. I had to turn off the monitor and cover my ears. You have to realize that they aren’t in any physical pain. If you can go outside or to another room for about 15-20 min (some cry longer, mine didn’t cry any longer than maybe 5 min in the beginning and then not at all) and then see how she’s doing, that may help. My son is 19 months now and beautiful sleeper. Down at 6:30 and up between 7-8 with a 2 hour nap in the day. You will sleep again:) Sorry this is so long.
    Every baby is different, so you never know what will work. It can be so frustrating. Hang in there!

  5. I have that book on my “to read” list.
    I’m reading the Healthy Child/Healthy Sleep book now. He’s got some good points, but I’m not all about letting her scream. Love her room! 🙂

  6. Good luck on the sleep thing. Jake and Clara STILL end up in our bed sometimes, though Clara is always so proud of herself when she wakes up still in her bed. Silly girl.
    The wall of awesome will be sweet! I need some big bookcases like that….the little ones just aren’t cutting it for our growing library

  7. I’ve got to chime in 🙂 and say noone ever told me HOW MUCH A BABY CRIES! I think I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s worth saying again. It wrenched my heart like nothing before becoming a mom. BUT, I realized how much it was taking a toll on me and had to do something to get mine to sleep on their own WITHOUT me, so I did let mine go through crying. Amazing, how I don’t even remember the third one crying much at all. I think I was used to it and knew to expect it. With my first, I did read Healthy Sleeping Habits, Healthy Child by Mark Weissbluth and recommend it. Hang in there, you’re doing great.

  8. Also, I recommend trying a schedule. I have two boys with a girl sandwiched in between, and I can say that the schedule helped my girl the most. Still does, and she just turned 6! She likes to know what to expect. As a newborn, she was on a 3 hr nursing schedule (until she started food), starting at 6am and ending at 9pm.
