Yarn is Yummy

Um so I got this yarn, no project planned, but I had to have it right? Hand dyed from New Zealand.  I also fell in love with Cascade 220. It’s so cheap, like 6.60 for 220 yards, ridiculous for such nice yarn. Can’t tell you want I’m using it for, but it’s knitting up really nice. I had to go to my local yarn shop (Have You Any Wool) to get some more needles and of course I saw a ton more yarn I had to get. But I have projects planned for those people, seriously. Ah so pretty. I hope to have a huge pile of projects knitted up. In other crafty supply news Sue came by and brought me some yummy olive green tailored tabs, as well as Studio Skinny Mini and Punctuation Quickutz, which are, of course, necessary for Christmas tags. 🙂 Well Sciarrino should be coming over soon with Burger King (gasp!), but hey I did get some quality DDR time in today, so it’s all good!

Oh crap, now this has to be a long one.

Yes, I waited too long to blog. Bad Amber. Where to start? Something funny perhaps?

This is looking out the front windows in my house. See that car up there (you can click on the picture to blow it up)? Ya, that is about four feet up into my neighbor’s yard. Here is the interesting thing, it didn’t drive up there, it flew. Yes, it flew through the air, and landed right there. You may be wondering what I was when I saw this, “how the hell did that car get up there?” Well it turns out we have a new driver up the road, a 15 year old girl who’s only been out a couple of times, and her dad was taking her around the neighborhood to practice. So she comes to this intersection and turns right, well tries to. There is a stop sign there, but apparently she didn’t really stop, and she didn’t really turn. And her dad was like, um, turn, turn, TURN. So then at the last second she cranked the wheel, hit the curb just right, and flew up above my neighbor’s retaining wall. HOLY CRAP MAN, that takes talent. I did feel a little bad for the girl since this kind of thing of course gathered many of the neighbors (well all the men, and me, what can I say, I’m snoopy). She was just sitting there on Elizabeth’s steps like, “this can’t be happening, this can’t be happening” And all the neighbor guys were talking about how the two tow trucks should be utilized to get the car out of the yard.

That was like a week ago, and I have been doing other things since then. Ribbon Jar stuff, cleaning, helping Sciarrino move, enjoying my new NetFlix subscription, and most recently, going to the Tri-Cities Washington for Thanksgiving holiday. Bj’s parent’s live there, so I said I would go the whole break so that we could spend Christmas here. Since we are working people now we can’t just take a week long Christmas break, and I didn’t want half of it to be driving. It worked out well, we left early Wednesday and came back this afternoon. I got a lot of knitting done there, of course you can’t see any of it because it’s all Christmas presents, but someone remind me after the holidays and I’ll post pictures of all my projects. I am going to take a picture of all the beautiful yarn I got yesterday in the sunlight. On the way home Bj and I stopped at a Stonehenge replica. It was built to honor WWI veterans.

More tomorrow… I promise. Angela will keep me honest.

Oh, and since I’ve been such a bad blogger, I will give you a laugh if you email me. Ceara sent me the most hilarious video. You should have seen my mom laugh at this. I not putting it on my blog because it’s slightly crud, and well, I don’t know how. So email me if you want it. Hehehe, I have to go watch it one more time myself. 🙂

Special Collections

Tell me what you thing about these pretty little things. I am in love with them. I like to just drool over them. Ahhh. Plus (in case you are not signed up for the newsletter), that yummy velvet showed up. It’s a good day to be a ribbon lover. 🙂 I’d also like to thank my college photography professor, Harrison, for sharing the old cookie sheet trick with me, love that.

Ode to the X-Files

I love the X-files.

So I had to get someone else to love it with me and Katie Sciarrino was the perfect candidate. She thought Mulder was hot, check, could handle scary things, check, and she valued my opinion enough to give it a try. Nearly two years ago we decided to watch the whole series in a row, no cheating. I had seen almost every episode and had many on DVD. So we began. We laughed, we cried, we yearned for Mulder and Scully to kiss. And tonight we finished. We watched the two hour series finale and left our two favorite FBI agents lying together in a hotel bedroom. Oh I hope there is a movie soon. Good work Sciarrino, good work.

Dear Amber Lee

I have given up trying to influence others on their music choices. I am now going to attempt to influence my future self.

Dear Amber Lee _______________________*,
I urge you to look deep in your music vault and dig up these “new millennium” songs. You might remember such classic alp songs as Right Where it Belongs by Nine Inch Nails or Headlock by Imogen Heap that you played over and over around the time your young self wrote this message (yes way back in 2005). Sometime after this you took the song off “single repeat” and it fell by the wayside. I’ve listed a dozen songs that made 2005 quite enjoyable (at least in the car when you were rocking out childless). Perhaps at 35 you are busy and singing Raffi songs, but I beg you to get “cool sick ill” one more time and give these a spin in your green mini iPod. You still have that don’t you? I saved up for it forever!

Sincerely yours,
Amber Lee Pence

Mad World by Tears for Fears
Dice by Finley Quaye
Headlock by Imogen Heap
Better Days by Goo Goo Dolls
Hung Up by Madonna (whom I’m assume you still worship)

Right Where it Belongs by Nine Inch Nails
Summer Skin by Death Cab for Cutie
This is Your Life by Switchfoot
Opportunities by Pet Shop Boys
-Incomplete by Backstreet Boys

Ceara, Zavian, and Ali

Just some people I saw this weekend. 🙂
I get WAY too excited around babies. Ceara’s super awesome and adorable new nephew is NO exception. See my smile, it’s like OMG you are so cute I almost want to eat you, or steal you. I want one. Sigh. I guess he always has his hands up like that, even did it in the womb, I thought it was too cute.
What could be better than a baby? That would be Ceara!!! I love Ceara and since she lives in Arkansas (yes, Arkansas, like five kajillion miles from here) I do not get to see her enough. So we always get to do the jumpy huggy thing when we see each other, it’s great. She spent the night last night, and since Sciarrino’s here it was a real party (well except that Ceara was kinda on Central time). It was so great just to hang out with her and talk to her and… WATCH ER WITH HER!! That’s right people, the Amber Ceara ER duo was back for one night only. Ceara and I definitely bonded over this show in high school, and even all through collage we called each other after it was over to discuss, but mostly just to make sure we talked at least once a week. I’d drive down to Eugene or she’d come to Corvallis so we could watch it together, but it’s been like two years since the last joint viewing. So I TiVoed the episode for her and we watched Friday night. Perfection.

Oh Ceara is friggin hilarious. I just love her. And having her and Sciarrino together. My two best friends together it’s the best. Of course it was short and sweet, she’s leaving today so she can make it to work on Monday. I’m having breakfast with her tomorrow so I get to see her one more time.

In other news Sciarrino and I had a class with Ali Edwards today. It pretty much ROCKED MY SOCKS OFF. I love my album!  I really hate when people get talked up and then they let you down, but I’m putting Ali with Madonna and Prince on the excellent performance scale – she did NOT disappoint. Really cool, easy to talk to and I was especially happy that she didn’t mind when Sciarrino and I went our own way a bit. It’s all good (as she says). And it was, all good. I really wished I would have signed up my mom to come with me, she would have loved it. I suggest if you have a mom (and like her) to take her to an Ali class. I think I would learn a ton about my mom if I had her do the homework… hmmm, mom you interested?

As far as good days go…

This is one of the best. But first, ode to Halfway.

It’s back there some where, we were about half an hour outside of Halfway here, just checking that the car top carrier was on right. If you went over those hills you would see the valley covered in snow, beautiful twinkling snow. It started snowing right when we got to Halfway on Monday evening. It snowed all night and we woke up to snow everywhere, so pretty. Tuesday Sciarrino packed her stuff into the rig and we went into town (the really tiny cute town) later in the evening. We went out to dinner with her sister, mom, and best friend Morgan. We ate at this teeny little bowling ally/diner/workout gym that had just reopened. I had super yummy chili cheese fries… with a chili cheese dog (no self control when it comes to chili from an in-the-middle-of-nowhere diner. It was so good. mmmm. We drove over to see Morgan’s new house, a 100 year old farm house with the most awesome moldings I’ve ever seen. And also to see her little five month old Cooper. Cooper has the best facial expressions. When I first picked him up he looked at me all surprise, like, “who the heck are you.” I LOVE babies!!!  Sigh. Driving to Sciarrino’s that night the stars were so incredible when we broke out of the fog. The sky was absolutely covered in stars, and the moon was shining down making the snow twinkle.

So the drive home was great too. And I couldn’t wait to get home because I knew I had a package waiting for me. I ordered these off eBay (I love eBay).

Dudes, I paid under 25 bucks for a set of 163 of these stamps. And I am totally in love with them. They have all kinds of nouns, some verbs, adjectives (including all the colors), and even three presidents… I wasn’t thinking this is so cool until I realized one of the presidents is Wilson and that is Ceara’s last name!  You can bet I’m stamping that on everything I send her. Hehehehe. I had a little stamped out sample to show you all, but my brother nicked my fire wire cable so I can’t hook up my scanner. You can bet they will be on many layouts in the future. I’m going to try and update later today again because I feel like I’ve got lots to say. But another thing that made my day fantastic?  A Ribbon Jar order that was almost two pounds. That is a TON of ribbon people, a Ton. Oh and my velvet is going to be here by Monday, ohhhhh I can’t wait.
