  • I spent all day working on this:
    Hello

It has lower case, upper case, numbers, vertical, horizontal, every sign (#$%&*&(, etc.) even some Greek letters, and fractions.  I’ve only got blue, black and a little woodgrain tape right now, but as I stock every dymo auction that should grow. The booklet that came with my machine says dymo comes in "16 different colors of plastic tape". Right now I have blue, green, avocado (the holy grail for me), bright orange, yellow, black, and red in the 3/8 size, and a handful in the 1/4 size. I also have some 1/2 and the aluminum that goes with that machine. So get ready for me to go label crazy!

  • On her never ending quest to get me to move to Portland Michele showed me a fabulous day yesterday in that city. Of course it helps that I get to hang out with a couple of my favorite people:

Violet is a bit confused by my flash, but she better get used to it, as a gloom has settled over the valley. I swear I don’t know what happened, we went from strategically opening and closing windows to keep the house cool to buttoning them all shut and shivering! There is no way I’m turning on the heat already, or pulling out my warmer clothes, so I’ve resorted to layering and knee highs.

Back to yesterday. I drove up after taking all my packages to the post office. It sprinkled off and on, but the drive was pretty nice as almost all summer road resurfacing is complete on the five, making it so nice and smooth. We hung out, drove around to find this yarn shop I had a credit at, which no longer existed (sob). Then we went to lunch at the CUTEST little place, called P.B. and Ellie’s. I mean when they bring you out water they automatically bring the kids sippy cups. Awe…. Then it was nap time for V, and I knitted more mitered squares because I can not stop. I also check my iPhone for more yarn shops, and it turns out there was one right in the village that sold cotton classic. So we went over there and Michele had to show me all the cutest stores, a candy shop, baby/kidswear shop, bead place, fabric store, toy store. All within a few blocks. Yes, I get it, Portland is awesome, but so is my house, so that’s where the dilemma lies. And now that we’ve got grandpa here we are not going to move for a couple of years. But I still love to visit. If nothing else so I can see all of my friends who are up there. I try to cram them all into one visit, it doesn’t usually work, but I did get to see Matt, Tex, and Martin at dinner. We went out to Serratto’s Yum, yum! A great day in a great city with great friends. Life is good.

  • I go to the doctor’s clinic about every other week, but just as a chauffeur to grandpa. I bring my knitting, wear a skirt (the last time I didn’t grandpa said I, “looked like a hobo.”), and hang out. I did that today, and got to enjoy grandpa completely mixing and matching two separate outfits I got him:

I wisely said nothing, but note to self: next time I buy his clothes make them all mix and match! Like his belt? I used my scrapbooking tools to punch five extra holes in it so he could wear it, LOL. I use scrapbook stuff for everything! So anyway I also had an appointment today. I figured after I got married and got some “good” insurance that I should get a physical. I’ve been putting this off as the last time I went to the doctor’s with my paid-for-it-myself-super-cheapo insurance plan it cost 65 dollars, and the insurance shelled out $2.65. What the hell? Why bother right? So way back in April I made an appointment and it was today. I had no pediatrician when I was little, my parent’s opted to take me to a regular family physician, so I literally have had the same doctor since I was a baby. They had a tray set up for an annual and I was like, um, NO, Dr. E, I’ve known you way too long. I’m all about the girl doctor for the girl parts. Anyway so it all went well. Apparently my body thrives on jalapeno dip, corn chips, and diet coke for breakfast (which is what I had this morning). I am seriously such a bad eater. I’ve written it all down before and half my calories are candy. Not chocolate, nothing with any kind of good powers, I’m talking jelly beans and marshmallows. Anyway I asked to have my cholesterol checked, sugars, iron, etc. I went down to the lab to make an appointment and my insurance doesn’t cover it. I have to go to the freaking hospital for that. So stupid. I’m being pro-active. I’m being good, getting all checked up before there is a problem, I mean won’t this save them lots of money in the long run? And aren’t they all about saving money and scamming me? Grrrr…
I remember when our exchange student Susanne was diagnosed with cancer. She was from Denmark. The government flew her dad over to come get her, they paid for everything, and her mom was by her side the whole time because they have very generous leaves. Sure they don’t have uber rich over there because like half there money goes to tax. But big deal, I mean if I got cancer right now I would be screwed, like so bad. My parent’s would have to bail me out, we’d be in debt, and I HAVE insurance. I watched Sicko when I was up in Alaska so I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I’m not politically inclined, and I don’t want this blog to be about all of that, but after today I just had to hold my head in my hands and say, really?
