  • The last few days have been all about baby holding. Bj's mom came to visit and nana was a big hit (nap time for mama!). Sarah (I just looked at her blog, duplicate entry ๐Ÿ™‚ came over on Saturday and we had a so much fun visiting, eating cake, and going on a walk.

The last pictures of crazy face with the green sweater, she's getting so big!

Hehehe. Because of all the holding I was able to open and photograph some new stash enhancements.

This yarn is from a local etsy seller and is made up of reclaimed sock yarn… a cool idea, I'll let you know if it really knits up with out noticing the joins. And here is some of the yummy fiber I got from Squoosh:

I have already spun up one chunk of fiber, this lovely merino/bamboo blend:

I made a single last night during a little nappy nap.

But it's been a while and the extra twist was insane:
    Spun-3

I hung it weighted and it's drying now, I think most of it will come out. And I think I am going to leave it as a single, maybe make a really soft hat? I don't know when I'll get much knitting time. I was knitting while nursing, but now that Tuesday eats so much faster I don't have the time. I have just been staring at her while she nurses. She's so wonderful, and getting so expressive, I love it. I can't believe she's a month old already! Today I got to experience my first parent inflicted baby torture; Tuesday had her newborn hearing screening.

They had to scrub her head extra hard because of all the fine little hairs there. And we had already kept her up and hungry for the last few hours because she needed to be ready to sleep hard when she got in, and I knew that was the only way she would. So by the time they hooked all this stuff up to her she was like, "why mama, why?!?!" But then she nursed and slept through the whole thing (1.5 hours). I wanted to sleep so bad. A dark, quite room and I was sitting in a recliner. It's sort of new parent torture. Bj was on a little chair next to me and he was so close to crashing too.

It looks comfortable, but I couldn't move because of all the wires. Oh, her hearing is perfect by the way ๐Ÿ™‚

    More adventures to come!

  • So today I had over a group of my mom's friends that we've known for a long time. Of course I wanted Tuesday to look her best so I asked Bj what she should wear. Her little dress, he said. But as I mentioned on the last post finding cool little tights hasn't been easy. So I decided to whip up some little leg warmers. I sewed in the ends right as the first guest was coming to the door.

I'm guessing they'll fit for about a week. BUT WHO CARES?!?! Is this not the cutest thing?
    010609-1

They are 5.5 inches around at the top, and 4 around at the bottom, 5.5 inches long (rav link). And um, HOT PINK. Because cool girls wear hot pink. Bj picked out this dress at the Old Navy clearance sale. Speaking of clothes; I pretty much never need to buy her any (at least for a while). Michele has given me so much fabulous stuff from V, ohhh it was so much fun to sort through and organize by size. Tuesday is 4 weeks old tomorrow and I've already started a "I can't believe she grew out of this" bin. Now all that said, I probably will buy her things, or at least do some more knitting, like this:

Also sock yarn (Ravelry link). Tuesday and I went on our first solo adventure (by car – we're walking pros). And I found a little rose button that works perfect at Jo-Ann's:

I had a hat cast on, but ripped it out. I thought it was going to be a little stiff – I didn't want to dig up bigger needles – but it wasn't until  my mom said that it had no give that I really realized that it wasn't going to work. I'll give it another go tonight. I'm still trying to figure out how to get some spinning time in…

Tuesday is briefly letting me off the hook, I just laid her down (about 15 minutes ago so she should be ready to hang out again any second now… just kidding I've got Enya blasting). I have a sure fire way to get her to conk out, if ever so briefly: swaddle her, plop her in the Baby Hawk, run and up down the stairs a few times (both sets), grab any bit of laundry I can find to justify doing another load, and start some up downstairs. Then all I have to do is narrate what I'm doing, "ooh Tuesday these are papa's boxers, they have palm trees on them. These are mama's underwear, I'm still wearing my maternity underwear. Oh look this is Tuesday's, it's your little monkey socks." Eventually she listens to me and calms down. Bj's thing is this weird chugga-chugga-choo-choo dance he does with her (note to self: must get on camera). Every time he does it he says, "I swear this always works!" Usually we only have a couple times we need to get her to calm down but she's a bit off kilter today. Not her fault. Bj had a meeting in Seattle, and his flight left at seven. His alarm went off at 4ish and I had just finished feeding Tuesday so I said, "oh quick turn it off I don't want to wake her." But she started to squirm anyway. I asked him to go change her, and he said "sure." Then the three of us feel asleep again. He woke himself up at 5:30 and the airport is an about an hour away. He made it to the gate just as they were closing the doors, but made the next flight (it's a shuttle so it goes often) so no problem. But I was so worried thinking about him driving too fast to make the flight I never really settled back down and I think Tuesday picked up on it. I nursed her a couple more times but she never really got back to full sleep mode. Finally at nine she was like, "no more cuddling mom get up! We have a day to conquer!" So we did.

First up: trying to find a sweater for this button (OMG – switch that and reverse it, I guess I'm a little tired still today) so I can mark it as complete on Ravelry (I love doing that).

Nothing is working quite right. When I do get a button on here I'm going to make some notes on the pattern on Rav because I think the button hole side should be reversed, and have issues with the arm decreases a bit, mainly because I made them longer so I could cuff them, and that messed up where they landed.

Yesterday I finally put some handknit socks on her:

Looks like I waited a little too long, she is growing so fast! I have one of my favorite outfits on her today, and it is definitely the last time, I could barely snap the bodysuit. Time to go through more of V's stash of clothes, whoo hoo!

*side note: if anyone knows where to get teeny tiny tights could you let me know? I have some dresses for her, but can't seem to find any tights her size.

Now the totally ridiculous thing I knit her:
    020409-1

It's a mini baby scarf! Hehehe. I made five button holes on one side so that I can tighten or loosen it around her scrawny little adorable neck. See Bj likes to have her in the Baby Hawk for our walks and her neck always looks so exposed. I had a tiny little mini skein of handspun and whipped this up. It's so tiny:
    020409-2

(with Bj's hand for scale). It totally cracked us up, but she seems to like it, so I think it's doing the trick. I haven't cast on an actual project yet, I keep meaning too when she's "down" but I never seem to get the time. I guess I could do that instead of blogging, but then I'd never remember this stuff later!
