  • Even though we woke her up in the middle of the night to come help at Bennet’s birth Sciarrino managed to grab the birthday present she’d made for the baby.

She made up this sweet wonky stars quilt with some cottons we’d got at quilt guild and shirting.

The shirting has a really great subtle texture that I love.

Bennet seems to really love the quilt too.

Don’t babies make the best faces? I forgot how awesome it is when they think your big black camera is the best thing to look at.

  • I may not be as organized and prepared scrapbook wise as I was before Tuesday was born (I had a whole fill in the blank scrapbook ready to go), but I’m determined not to forget all the little moments happening now. I’m also determined to use some of my supplies. I’m trying hard not to fall into the trap I got into with Tuesday: middle of the night craft supply buying via my iPhone. I couldn’t craft since she didn’t sleep, so I bought tons of paper and fiber instead. Oops! I’m still crawling out from under all that goodness so I thought since Bennet lets me I should take advantage and make her a page.

It’s perfect, just what I wanted to say. A page to show just how excited we were to meet Bennet. I’ve been making more thank you cards, so I have a bunch of the waste paper (heart background) and knew I wanted to do a page about how full my heart was. I think that comes across here.

I used one of Ali’s words from Designer Digitals and cut it with my Silhouette. It took about three runs through the machine before I realized I should probably change blades. I used the new ratcheted kind and it was awesome (ohhh just saw the fabric blade, I have to get one of those!).
So how did Bennet let me get all this scraping in?

Oh hammock, how I love you! I would prefer these longer stretches of sleep be in the night. But I’m rolling with it for now.

  • We’re building a garden shed!  I’m so excited. That was always the plan for this space:

And we’re finally doing it. I think I’ve mentioned that our garage is so small a mini cooper couldn’t fit in there. We have all manor of things in there, like strollers, bike trailers, tools, etc. This way Bj can have a proper little shop out there and all our yard things can be stored here. I’m going to have a potting area on one side, and behind a little hatch thing for the kids to pull toys out of.
Right now it looks like this:

The handyman has sourced all recycled materials, so it’s going to be country/shabby chic. Think recycled barn wood siding and weathered metal roof.

The opposite side of the bottom part of the yard is going to have a little play structure or something someday so I think a tiny place to sit out front of my shed would be perfect, I just don’t know exactly how I want to do it. There are going to be pavers around the front and side. And window box things in front of the old windows. I think maybe I want big pots of plants out there too? I was worried about it looking quite imposing in our yard, but I think with the weathered material it will blend in nicely. I am so excited! I just wish the project could move a little bit faster, but isn’t that always the way?
This fall I will commit to rehabilitating the yard! And I won’t have any excuses with all my stuff organized out here!
