  • Bennie’s Blanket

    Even though we woke her up in the middle of the night to come help at Bennet’s birth Sciarrino managed to grab the birthday present she’d made for the baby. She made up this sweet wonky stars quilt with some cottons we’d got at quilt guild and shirting. The shirting has a really great subtle texture that I love. Bennet seems to really love the quilt too. Don’t babies make the best faces? I forgot how awesome it is when they think your big black camera is the best thing to look at.

  • The (new) Baby Blanket

    I thought it would be nice to make something up specifically for this baby. I have lots of wonderful handmade things that the baby will use, but almost all are hand me downs from Tuesday’s time as a little one. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that at all, and it has made prep much easier, but I figured something special just for this summer baby would be wonderful.     Oh how I am addicted to this simple fun pattern (free pattern found here). This is the second one I pieced, the first top was pretty much the same as the example. Making up different color combinations is so much fun! I chose to do the back simple, in a Kona solid. I love how it shows off the quilting. Even though I practiced (and ripped it out once one the actual quilt) the swirl was really hard for me to get right. I had to free motion for the first bit before the circle was wide enough for me…
