We’ve been…
Making messes. Creative ones of course. And looking at the clock, also putting off making dinner to make said messes.
Spinning(!)
Tuesday showing off some fiber I unearthed from the insane fiber/yarn stash that was hidden behind all the garage sale stuff we got rid of. Did I mention we finally had our garage sale? Hallelujah (ugh why is there a j in that word?!?!) Yippee! We are now the proud NON owners of a storage unit! Still a few things to try and Craig’s List, but after the garage sale I had Bj back the rig up and load almost all the leftovers into the car to take to Goodwill. Goodbye stuff, we will not miss you.
Oh, um, oops. Of course nobody’s perfect and once I made a little cash/unearthed some more storage area I went to Fabric Depot with Erin. It was a sale weekend (35% off all fabric) plus I hit up the outdoor yard sale. All the big pieces of fabric and some of the others were from that section, $1-4 dollars a yard. I’d estimate now that puts me at about 47 sewing projects planed.
Couldn’t resist a chance to pop over to the beach. Even though the one way drive time of 2 + hours was a little much for this pregnant mama.
Worth it though, Tuesday will play out in the sand ALL. DAY. LONG. If you let her. This beach was so awesome, I don’t remember ever going to Nehalem Bay State Park before. Great long stretch of beach. Tuesday really wanted to stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory (for ice cream) so she stayed awake the whole drive over chatting with me. I wish I would have recorded it, the things she wanted to talk about were so cute. I’ve told her we’ll do a big sister party for her towards the end of the summer for her little friends and she decided on this road trip that Christmas trees with lights would be the perfect decoration.
This spot would be a picture of my craft/sewing day. If I ever remembered to take pictures of such things. Which I don’t.
What I found after nap today. They are all ready for the “contesk” I tried to ascertain what this contest was for, but it was very unclear. I did like the host. You’ll have to picture it yourself: a victorian lady in a white and pink dress with a fighter helmet and mic on. She has such patience to set stuff up on this wibbly wobbly fabric. I think I might have to bring some boards from her blocks up to the nook because it drives me nuts how everything falls over like dominos!
(This post brought to you by, “I know I look really pregnant and if I don’t post at least once a week people will think I’m about to give birth.”)

Life in Color – The Shower
My friends and I have an agreement that every baby gets a baby shower, which is awesome since I love showers of any kind. Double awesome that I was the lucky recipient of this shower and TRIPLE AWESOME that Sciarrino hosted the most amazing shower ever. I mean, of course she did right? The one for Tuesday was fantastic. Sciarrino told me to wear white to the shower and I had it in my head that she was going to have the guests come dressed according to the sex they thought the baby was (blue for boy or pink for girl). Of course now it seems silly I ever thought that since Sciarrino knows how I feel about girl/boy pink/blue madness (not a fan). When Erin opened the door in blue I knew I was right. But I was in for the best surprise. A Life In Color shower!
The whole house had colorful touches; like I was walking into a dream shower I never even knew to dream about!
(yummy favors. I do love me some sweets)
Mmm. I forget what she called the chili + Frito thing, but it was so good. Oh and that cake?
Wait for it…
She sent me home with the leftovers and though I have not had much of an apatite as of late I managed to eat a very large portion of this cake. Can you blame me? I did give Tuesday a little slice and her eyes about popped out of her head at the awesomeness.
Decor and food wasn’t enough. We played some fun games, including this one that was way too hard for me. Baby pictures. With the added twist of a sibling or friend in the picture it made it impossible for me!
14 of my friends went in on an awesome hammock for the baby. I know they all love me (and I do have the best friends ever), but I think they all pity me because of Tuesday’s sleep situation and like me hope this is a magic trick for baby #2.
Best dressed Lauren with one of the onsies. I got to keep all the ones hanging up and the ladies decorated them with a cut out of their choice. Sarah cut out a bunch of flora & fauna shapes with her Silhouette. So why was Lauren the best dressed and why was I in white?
BECAUSE MY FRIENDS DRESSED IN A RAINBOW! Is that not the most awesome?!?! Sciarrino sent out invitations color coded with pantone swatches for the guests to wear (really!). You can see the awesome invitations and more details on Sciarrino’s blog (it will be obvious that she took a lot of the photos I used here) .
To my wonderful friend Sciarrino you are the best. I had such a wonderful day and am so happy to celebrate baby number two! And to all my friends, who made it and those that couldn’t, thank you, thank you! I swear the notes are going in the mail this week! Much love!
Three Years & Almost Five Months
I’m a little afraid that I’ll forget some of the wonderful things about this age as pregnancy progresses (and when the little baby pops out!).
-Tuesday can make a “coffee shop” out of anything anywhere. She has terrible service, but you just can’t resist going back to the place.
-Constantly surprising us with her correct use of the English language. She woke up last night to go potty and called for papa to come help her. When he showed up she exclaimed, “Oh you scared me. I didn’t expect you from that direction!”
-Made up words. Tuesday has a huge vocabulary, but I guess it’s not enough. She loves to make up words. Above you can see me drinking Mama Cabahna tea. Making up a word to rhyme with a real word is a favorite activity.
-Reading, reading, reading. Still probably the most favorite activity. She has lots of books “memorized” and I can hear her on the monitor reading them to herself. It is so cute. She won’t do this as much around us so I haven’t figure out how to get it on video.
-Being a baby. This is not so cute for this mama. Pretend crying, crawling and not wanting to wipe herself (?!?!). All very annoying, and I’m trying to be cool about it and hope a lot of this has to do with new baby talk and maybe she can get it out of her system before said new baby arrives.
-Baby stuff. She loves that the baby’s crib is set up in her room now. She excitedly shows guests how she helped me organize the changing table, and what each thing is for (diapers, covers, air out pads, etc.). She does an adorable “ohhhh and awe” over the tiny baby things.
-Pretend play. Anything having to do with being a doctor or dentist. Playing with her critters or Playmobil “guys” and setting up little scenes. She loves to take “people” to parties and picnics.
-Dressing herself in the most crazy awesome outfits. Today: grey and hot pink polka dot socks, pink leggings, fitted nike tee with a liberty of london dress over. Topped with a blue polka dot cardigan and vintage cowgirl boots. Can’t forget the three sizes too small vintage disney cap she found of Bj’s in our garage sale stuff.
-Dance, dance, dance. Talking about it. Picking out the perfect music for it. Collecting leaves as props for her to wave around. Watching So You Think You Can Dance while she half closes her eyes and dances around with the music.
-Definitely knows what is expected of her. If she forgets to do something drilled into her she says, “Oh mama. I forgot to put my napkin on my lap before I started eating, I’m so silly!” “I almost walked around [inside] with my shoes on, I’m so silly!”
-Working on giving her more responsibility. Taking dishes back to the kitchen, helping mama get things, brushing her own teeth in the morning, etc.
-Bedtime rock star. I still can’t believe how well bedtimes have worked out the last few months. We almost always skip silent reading time now. Our routine goes: upstairs, change, clean up, brush teeth, put away any random thing that is out, pick out books, 3 books (split between mama and papa), lights out, fan on low with music, mama or papa cuddle for a few songs. Then we leave her door open and go back up later to crank her fan all the way up, turn off her music and shut her door most of the way. Usually she’s asleep straight to morning. She still wets occasionally. Mostly when she’s really tired and just doesn’t wake up to take herself. Sometimes this upsets her but usually she just asks for help getting cleaned up.
-Rest time. Going well, mostly. We have rough days, and I still push her too late occasionally so she’s over tired when she gets up there. Never good. She has fallen asleep only a handful of times since we switched naps for rest. Two hours is the average we leave her up there to play alone. She starts with 25 minutes of quite reading time in her bed to settle her down (we use this timer so she knows when it’s up).
-Almost anything can be fixed with a Bandaid. Plain is preferred for now.
-Not liking papa going back to work after a week vacation (at home). “Can I keep him company in his room?”
-Usually so sweet she likes to throw in an occasional “I don’t like you!” in a mean voice. It’s very hard to take someone this cute seriously when she says that.
-Starting to notice how other people feel. Today she told me that, “The guy in the blue jacket looks sad.”
-Learning so much! She tells me when she sees bees pollinating flowers, and what they are doing it for, “mama those bees are pollinating so we can have strawberries!”. Starting to want to count things up, first time she’s really shown any interest in numbers. Surprisingly I realized by accident that she could do some simple addition and subtraction. She puts out all the napkins, and when we have one clean out but three people she will tell me we need two more; little stuff like that.
-When she turns 18 I am going to have to give her a huge basket full of gum. She sees any of mine and asks me to, “save it for when I’m grown up and I can have gum.”
I’ll probably keep thinking of things to add to this. I just love her little personality. I’m tired some days and we can push each other’s buttons, but we mostly get on so well.
Before the Rain Came
Oh, just humor me here. I’d like to remember those sunny days in the garden.
My neighbor called this a mock rose. I’m not sure if that’s right, but suddenly I see them all over town. Strange, I don’t remember ever seeing this flower in the yard before, so it either took a while to mature or I am totally spacing buying it last year.
Lots of blueberries this year. Still hoping to make it to a you pick place though. We go through at least 20 pounds a year… probably way underestimating that.
This cool flower has an awesome story. We were eating at Word of Mouth Cafe and exploring the little garden during a long wait (quite common there). I was explaining plants to Tuesday and the care taker of the garden was so impressed with our interest that she insisted on pulling this up to give to us for our garden. So very sweet, we treasure it!
Yay! Our little paw-paws are going to make it! Check out my DIY slug solution, copper tape right around the trunk. I forced myself to pull of the one fruit I found developing. It’s a must do with very young fruit trees in order for them to focus more energy on growing bigger and stronger instead of producing fruit. Also note: Yes, I have not been a perfect weeder this year. The belly gets in the way!
Tuesday makes sure I don’t get to try many of these:
Which might not be such a bad thing… I bit into one, took a look at it and had JUST missed a potato bug crunching in my mouth, EWWWWW. I’m trying some natural solutions now so hopefully they don’t all get munched up before we can eat them.
Our peonies blooming for the first year. This frilly lady…
And her understated friend. 3 more varieties still to bloom. We picked them out last year from Adelman’s. It was so hard to choose, but some day when they are all filled in above the rock wall I think they will be just stunning.
I was going to take it a bit easy on the yard this year, seeing as how I’m due in the summer and worried about keeping up with it all. I couldn’t resist a whole bunch of tomatoes, and then I needed to fill up some spots with annuals. Then I decided annuals were so much work that I planted a few new perennial borders… and on, and on. I really do think I’m done planting now (unless a Rose De Berne tomato plant falls in my lap, I couldn’t find one this year). So it’s going to be mostly upkeep: dead-heading roses, preventive treatments against pests, pruning, thinning, and of course, weeding. I also must not forget to water the plants on the porch. I’ll keep you updated on my progress. For now the sweet smelling rain has me indoors; organizing and sewing. I’m not complaining. Much.
Fair Warning – this is almost too cute!
This fall I was looking around for a dance place that would take Tuesday before 3, since her birthday wasn’t until January. The regular studios said they were too strict for a two year old, and I was looking more for fun. I found the YMCA’s program and we’ve been so happy with it. She goes once a week for a little half hour class. At first there were too many kids so they separated the classes and she ended up with just seven in hers, a perfect amount. Her teacher is the sweetest thing and Tuesday loves dancing. Midway through the program she had her “I don’t want to go in there alone” moments. It was strange, because she had done so well. But we just left the door open for her and she walked into class whenever she was ready. She got over that and has been pretty excited about dance ever since.
Of course that was taken up a whole new level a few weeks ago when she got to get into her costume, make up (done by grandma) and get her picture taken for class. I was at my baby shower (will blog about it soon, it was so awesome it deserves its own post) so my mom and Bill took her. Bill has three boys, so he got quite the kick out of all the poofy skirt, eye shadow craziness.
I’d say she was enjoying herself. I wasn’t planning on putting much makeup on her, but after my mom did (Tuesday’s request: 50 pounds of make up please), I acquiesced and I have to admit it was a big part of making her excited about dress rehearsal and recital nights.
I rarely put any make up on so the lipstick I dug up was from my wedding… 5 years ago! Tuesday had fun picking some blues from a palette with tons of colors that I got talked into at Sephora a year ago.
These are the poses she came up with for my camera (before the recital).
Hahahaha, I love them. They totally crack me up.
After this we took her and dropped her off at 5:15. The show didn’t start until 6:30, and we didn’t get to pick her up until intermission an hour later. I’ve never just dropped her off somewhere before so it was quite a shock to me how well she did. The night before, rehearsal, the parent helper said she had to be taken to the bathroom three times! And there were no parents helpers the night of the show, but she did totally fine. She squealed with glee when I went to get her from her teacher, dangling a little cellophane bag in my face and exclaiming that it had, “two crayons, two balloons, and TWO CANDIES IN IT!!!!”
She got to see her grandparents and was so excited that her nana brought her the cutest little mini bouquet. She wanted to go sit back down and watch all the rest of the dances. After everyone she asked, “can we watch more dance?!?!”
Here’s the one picture I got before I realized it was silly to try and take pictures, and I should just enjoy the under 2 minute routine.
I’m keeping her in the summer dance program, mostly because the class is at the exact same time and I’m trying to have some continuity to her days through the summer/baby arriving. It will be all about dance this summer, as the only show I’ve deemed appropriate from birth is So You Think You Can Dance. That’s right, I don’t own a TV and won’t let Tuesday watch anything (save a few Thomas episodes when she’s sick), but I am down with SYTYCD. She loves the routines, and does some nice interpretive stuff on the floor in front of our projector, it’s quite cute.
Now I realize that this post was almost entirely for me and the grandparents, but man, I just can’t help it. I should tack on a little bonus and dig up pictures of Bj and I in our dance classes!
Ten minutes after I edited this…
My computer completely crashed. My hard drive fried and I had to start from scratch. That means I (and by I in these instances I almost always mean Bj) had to format my hard drive. You should know what formatting means if you have a digital camera because formatting is the best way to clean off a memory card after you import photos (simply deleting them leaves you with a messy card and can cause problems). When you format a hard drive on a computer you’re left with a computer like you’d get new. It’s empty, it has none of your applications, preferences, files, photos, or anything else on it. Does that sounds scary? If you don’t back up your computer it should scare you!
I’m not trying to brag here, but I’ve got a pretty good system in place for not downloading crap, keeping myself from getting viruses and generally being very responsible with my computer. Still a legit program brought my computer down because of an incompatibility that I hadn’t addressed. A tiny little over site (I have to calibrate my monitor for printing with pro labs and the software was out of date so it set off a chain of events). Really your computer could crash at any time, and statistically will crash, probably before you want it to.
So how do I have a sweet little picture of a baby up there when it should be in computer file wasteland? I BACK MY STUFF UP AND YOU SHOULD TOO! I admit that my system is maybe a bit of an over kill, but I do have other people’s memories to worry about. Here’s what I do (basically, because the technical stuff is all Bj): I have external hard drives sitting right behind my computer, plugged in and my time machine is constantly backing them up. Then they back each other up. One of the drives is extra large and has everything on it one more time (redundancy is the key, you must assume something will fail you). Once a month that extra large drive goes to a safe deposit box (really any where off site will work) and another comes back in it’s place. This is because I feel if someone came to steal my computer they’d probably take the drives, and if there was a fire, everything would be toast, so I want something off site. That’s my system. It seems crazy, and it actually took me a while to make myself put it into place. These things do take time away from taking pictures, scrapbooking, sewing, etc. Now that it is in place though it is pretty easy to keep up. Of course re-installing programs, and putting everything back onto the computer when it crashed was a lot of work (a couple long nights for Bj), but it is so awesome that everything I was working on is right at my finger tips again (the only thing I don’t back up is my desktop, because it’s a temporary holding place for me, so I do loose a few things if I have things only there, but usually they’re copies of files).
So I can not stress this enough. If you have all your photos on your computer, and mail messages, and files and applications, and heck phone back ups, you need to be backing up! There are online sites that can help (you up load your stuff to a cloud) if you have a smaller amount of data. Find something that works for you and make it a priority. Trust me, if this can happen to me, it can happen to you.
Little tiny cute things
Oops, we got busy! Tuesday and I went over to a friend’s house so that we could photograph her little baby. Not quite as little as I like to shoot babies, but I was so gross and sick the last couple weeks there was no way I was going to cough all over a newborn. So instead we got to hang out with a still tiny, but more awake month old baby. Of course Tuesday didn’t mind at all!
And she got to hang out with her girlfriends all morning.
Oh you little girls.
We did get Brody to fall asleep (well by we I mean his mama’s milk of course!).
Let me tell you, it’s a lot harder to get a month old baby boy to stay curled up and covered than a few day old baby.
I might be a bad blogger this week. Bj took his vacation time and we’re at home all week. Yay for staycations and knocking a million things off the to do list! If only the baby in my belly would let me sleep in on this vacation….
Week in the Life in Project Life
I’m still planning on doing something else with my Week in the Life photos. I love them (and thank you for all the sweet comments about them!) and am thinking maybe a Shutterfly book would be the easiest thing to get done. I did include the week in my Project Life album. Of course with 600+ photos to choose from I knew I had to make it easy on myself. So I just picked a handful that best represented the project.
And we went to the beach and I still didn’t use any inserts! Yay for easy! When I was thinking about the week in photos I was thinking about why I loved the project and why the photos were so special. They were so special to me because I don’t usually take photos of things like breakfast and my weight. And my mom, who I normally see once a week I hardly have any pictures of (for shame!). So those are the pictures I chose to include, and I just journaled about why I picked those photos.
For me Week in the Life is all about the photos, not so much the words. But Tuesday had some real gems quote wise so I used this little pocket bag thing Sarah got me to slip a journaling card in with them all typed out. And on that note:
